Latte PDF vs Adobe Acrobat

Adobe Acrobat is a full PDF suite sold by subscription: Acrobat Pro costs US$239.88 a year paid up front, or US$19.99 a month on a yearly plan. Latte PDF is a smaller PDF text editor for Mac that you pay for once, from $9.99, and that edits PDFs on your computer without uploading them. Choose Acrobat if you need its wider set of tools, or its web and mobile apps; choose Latte PDF to change the words in PDFs privately, without a subscription.

Where Acrobat does more

Acrobat is the bigger product, and for some people that is the point:

  • More places to use it. Adobe offers Acrobat on desktop, on the web and on phones and tablets. Latte PDF is a Mac app today.
  • Three plans and AI. Standard, Pro and Studio cover different needs, and AI Assistant is an add-on to Pro and part of Studio. Latte PDF has no AI features.
  • Cloud storage and sharing. The membership comes with 100 GB of Adobe cloud storage, so files can follow you between devices.
  • Web forms and a wider toolset. Adobe lists more than 70 features in Acrobat Pro, including making web forms. Latte PDF does fewer things and focuses on text.

If your team already works in Acrobat, shares files through Adobe's cloud or needs to edit on a phone or in a browser, Acrobat is the practical choice.

Where Latte PDF is different

  • Paid once. $9.99 for one computer, or $12.99 for 2 computers. No renewal, and updates to everything you bought are free.
  • Editing stays on your computer. Opening, reading scanned pages, editing, previewing and saving all happen on the computer. Editing never uploads your PDF, and the app goes online only when you click a button for it, such as Activate or Check for updates.
  • No account. Your email and licence key are all there is: nothing to sign in to.
  • The original is never changed. Save As always writes a new PDF, so the file you opened stays exactly as it was.
  • Built for changing the words. Click a line and type; the text keeps its font, size and position, on typed pages and on scans.

Adobe's online editor works differently: it uploads the file to Adobe's servers, and you sign in to download the edited copy. Adobe says AI Assistant processes documents on Adobe's own infrastructure and does not use them to train AI models.

Which one to choose

  • Choose Acrobat if you need web or mobile apps, AI features, Adobe cloud storage, or the full range of PDF tools your organisation already uses.
  • Choose Latte PDF if you mostly need to fix or change the text in PDFs, including scans, want your files to stay on your computer while you work, and would rather pay once.

You can also use both: they open the same PDFs.

Questions

Can Latte PDF open PDFs made in Acrobat?

Yes. Latte PDF opens standard PDFs whatever made them, whether Acrobat, Word or a scanner, including password-protected ones when you know the password.

Is Latte PDF a full replacement for Acrobat?

Not for everyone. It edits text, fills forms, signs, blacks out, exports to Word, Excel and PowerPoint, compares and combines files. It has no web or mobile app, no cloud storage and no AI. If you rely on those, keep Acrobat.

Does Latte PDF need the internet?

Not to edit. Everything you do to a PDF happens on your computer. The app goes online only when you click a button for it, such as Activate or Check for updates, and never in the background.
