- iPhone and iPad. The yearly plans cover PDF Expert on the Mac, iPhone and iPad. Latte PDF is a Mac app.
- Reading and marking up. PDF Expert has a full set of annotation tools: highlights, pop-up notes, text in the margins. Latte PDF is built around changing the text itself.

Where Latte PDF is different
- Less to pay once. $9.99 for one computer, or $12.99 for 2 computers, against $139.99 for PDF Expert's Lifetime licence.
- Scanned text you can change. Latte PDF reads a scanned page on your computer, then lets you retype its words; the new words are drawn to match the scan and the old ones are removed from the picture.
- Changes found for you. Compare reads both files and highlights every word added, removed or changed, with a list to step through.
- Editing stays on your computer, with no AI. Opening, reading scans, editing and saving happen on the computer. The app goes online only when you click a button for it, such as Activate or Check for updates.
- The original is never changed. Save As always writes a new PDF.
PDF Expert also offers PDF Copilot on the web, which works on PDFs you upload; its page says files are deleted within 24 hours if you don't create an account.
